Driving in kathmandu tests your patience no doubt. From the micro buses to the motor cyclists and everyone/thing else in the street, its a daunting task navigating your way to the destination.
I drive. Oh yes, I drive! after years of procrastination on taking the driving license, I have started driving out of compulsion. From home to work, I take the same route almost everyday. And by now, I have come to know exactly turns, potholes and traffic jam prone areas.
One thing that confuses me everyday is the Zebra crossing. Since we were kids, we have been taught we should cross the road from the Zebra Crossing only! And here, its dumped from the mind as we grow up like all other algebra, geometry, biology lessons we think we'll never need in future! Every time I see a Zebra crossing, I am totally puzzled whether to slow down the car and stop for the pedestrians to cross or just go ahead! Almost always, I stop for the people trying to cross the road but what scares me is --what if the vehicle behind doesn't stop and comes and hits me--or worse what if it overtakes me from the left and hits the pedestrian while crossing the road! Another thing is, when I stop, I gesture with my hand to the people to cross the road and there they stand confused--what is this girl trying to do!
Everyday, Everywhere, for me its a state of confusion---to stop or not to stop!
